Championship ManagerChampionship Manager refers to a series of computer games based around football-management. Championship Manager, also referred to as Champ Manager, CM, etc. was conceived by Paul and Oliver Collyer. The series was launched in 1992 and it wasn’t a huge success. The game generated mixed reviews that ranged from positive to plain dismissive. This could be attributed to facts like the programming language used - the BASIC language wasn’t ideal for high-performance programming. Additionally, while it's competitors used names of real players, the Championship Manager didn’t. The Championship Manager 93/94 overcame these limitations by porting to the C programming language, as well as adding real player names, among other improvements. This game proved to be a hit with football fans. Championship Manager boasted several improvements like up-to-date squads for each team, added photos of each ground to lend more credibility while one managed their teams, and even an in-match commentary engine. This game enjoyed unprecedented popularity. Championship Manager 3 was launched in 1999, featuring changes in graphics, visuals, gameplay and other technical aspects. The updates included Championship Manager: Season 99/00, Championship Manager: Season 00/01 and Championship Manager: Season 01/02. The Championship Manager 2006 and the Championship Manager 2007 are the latest in the fifth instalment of Championship Manager series. |
