GamecubeGameCube is Nintendo's fourth home video game console. This sixth generation console was released on May 3, 2002 in Europe and is successor to the Nintendo 64 and predecessor to the Wii. The GameCube is shaped like a cube and is available in a variety of colours like indigo, platinum and black. A limited edition, called ’Resident Evil 4’, was also launched, which had a platinum and black colour scheme. GameCube uses Nintendo GameCube Game Discs, which is based on Matsushita's optical-disc technology. These discs are approximately 3 1/8 inches in diameter and have a capacity of approximately 1.5 gigabytes. GameCube discs are encrypted with a key derived from the Burst Cutting Area. Nintendo GameCube comes without DVD or audio CD support. This format reduces copyright infringement, provides faster loading times, and makes the system cheaper by avoiding DVD-licensing fees. Besides, this format makes the GameCube a compact console. To transfer game data, the GameCube can be connected to Game Boy Advance or Game Boy Advance SP. One GameCube can be connected to eight other GameCubes directly for LAN play. The Nintendo GameCube software library contains many Nintendo game series like Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda Metroid, PokÈmon Colosseum, Super Smash Bros., Melee and others. |
