N64The N64 was launched by Nintendo in 1996. It was the third home video gaming console launched by Nintendo for the international market. N64 game console was designed jointly by Nintendo, Silicon Graphics and MIPS Technologies. It was named N64 after its 64 bit processor. It used masked ROM cartridges to store games and was the last mainstream gaming console to do so. Featuring trilinear filtering technique, N64’s graphic chip provided exceptionally smooth visual textures. Nintendo released the console along with two games, Super Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64. When launched, the N64 console was available in a standard dark gray/black colour. However, a gold Nintendo 64 game console was released along with the console game Golden Eye 007 in the United Kingdom. Nintendo also launched a gold controller in Japan for the game, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Nintendo replaced the N64 game console in 2001 with their new console, the Nintendo GameCube. However, due to the popularity of the N64 console, Nintendo sells various related accessories such as N64 controller, controller pak, expansion pak, rumble pak, transfer pak, N64 ROM downloads and so on. Different third party accessories are also available in the market. |
