NESThe Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES, is one of the earliest video game consoles developed by Nintendo. An 8-bit game console, this device was first introduced in the year 1985 in North America, Brazil, Europe, and Australia. With over 60 million consoles sold worldwide, this was a one of the most successful gaming consoles of its time, setting the standard for all future consoles on most parameters such as game design to controller layout. Soon after achieving success with the NES, Nintendo made plans to incorporate cartridge-based consoles, which were not featured in the earlier Color TV Games products. The NES was the first console for which the manufacturer openly courted third-party developers. The game controllers of the Nintendo NES featured a brick-like design with a simple yet effective four-button layout along with a cross-shaped D-pad for easy navigation. Subsequent versions of the console came with a Zapper (electronic gun), which was regarded one among the most popular special controllers launched for the NES. However, its usage was limited to only a few games. Over a period of time, several NES games were released, which included The Simpsons: Bartman vs. Radioactiveman Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Super Mario Bros. 3, Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link as well as Super Mario Bros/ Duck Hunt. All these games were much sought after. |
