The PlayStation 1 or PS1 is part of the fifth generation era video game consoles introduced by Sony in the mid-1990s. The console was released in Japan on 3 December 1994,in the United States on 9 September 1995,in Europe on 29 September 1995 and in the Asia-Pacific region in November 1995. Ever since its release, the PlayStation has successfully established loyal fans among gamers. This ensured that a large number of customers will stick with the brand.

The PS1 game series subsequently included successor consoles and upgrades like the Net Yaroze, PSone, the PlayStation 2, a revised, slimline PS2, a PlayStation Portable and the PlayStation 3. Sony introduced the PS1 console with the aim to becoming the "king" of multimedia entertainment. It has taken gaming from the confines of the living room to all corners of the world via the Internet.
